Role Description The Non Ferrous Scale Operator is a full-time, on-site role based in Ilford. The role involves receiving non-ferrous metal loads, accurately weighing materials on the scale, and recording weights and material types in the system. The operator checks incoming metals for quality and correct classification, communicates with customers and drivers, and issues tickets or documentation for each transaction. Daily tasks include maintaining a clean and safe work area around the scale, following health and safety procedures, and coordinating with yard staff to ensure efficient traffic flow and material handling. The operator may also assist with basic yard duties, such as directing vehicles, monitoring stock locations, and supporting colleagues during busy periods.

Hours Mon-Fri 7am-5pm & Sat 8am-2pm

Salary starting at 700-800 per week.

Qualifications

  • Ability to operate weighing scales and related equipment accurately, with strong attention to detail for recording weights and material types.
  • Basic understanding of non-ferrous metals (e.g., copper, brass, aluminium)
  • be able to operate a forklift to load and unload trucks.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with customers, drivers, and yard team members in a clear and respectful manner.
  • Good numeracy and basic computer or point-of-sale skills for entering data, issuing tickets, and maintaining transaction records.
  • Commitment to health and safety practices, including safe movement around vehicles, use of PPE, and adherence to site procedures.
  • Ability to work on your feet in an outdoor or semi-outdoor environment, handling a physically active role in varying weather conditions.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Previous experience in metal recycling, waste management, logistics, or a similar operational environment is beneficial
