Right now, we are looking for a Pool Worker to play a pivotal role in our Lewisham Mental Health Accommodation Service.
Sounds great, what will I be doing?
At Lewisham Mental Health Service we provide supported accommodation for single adults with complex mental health needs at various stages of recovery. The service forms part of the London Borough of Lewisham’s Mental Health Supported Housing Pathway, supporting individuals to build independence, develop essential life skills and move on to more independent accommodation when appropriate.
As a Pool Worker, you will provide flexible, ad-hoc support to service users in a trauma-informed way, helping them work towards their goals and maintain their wellbeing. You will engage service users in assessment, support planning and safety planning, ensuring these processes are person-centred and led by the individual.
The role involves working closely with the Service Manager and wider team to assess referrals, develop and review support plans, safety management plans and move-on plans. You will work collaboratively with external agencies, family members, carers and other supporters to ensure service users receive coordinated and effective support.
You will also support service users to access healthcare, education, training and employment opportunities, participate in community activities, develop independent living skills and sustain their accommodation. Responsibilities include promoting health and safety within the service, supporting service users to adhere to occupancy agreements, including rent payments, and ensuring the environment remains welcoming and recovery focused.
Working as part of a rota, you will contribute to service coverage and support the delivery of high-quality services that help individuals progress on their recovery journey and maximise their independence.
What do I need to bring with me?
You’ll need to be able to demonstrate the core skills this role requires as well as match our values and mission. You don’t have to tick all the boxes right away; the important thing is that you’re willing to learn. We also value lived experience of the areas we support, so if you feel comfortable, please do mention this on your application.
The ideal candidate will have a good knowledge of mental health, including the signs, symptoms and treatments associated with mental illness, and the ability to recognise when a service user’s mental health may be deteriorating and take appropriate action. They will understand safeguarding responsibilities, be committed to working within an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion framework, and be passionate about supporting recovery and independence.
You will possess good literacy and numeracy skills together with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and IT-based support planning and risk assessment systems. You will be comfortable working as part of a team, building positive relationships with service users and stakeholders, and supporting individuals with a wide range of needs.
The successful candidate will be willing to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends and sleep-ins where required, travel between services when necessary, and support service users with daily living activities including cooking, cleaning and personal care. Most importantly, you will be motivated to help people achieve their goals and live as independently as possible.
