Here in the Revenues and Benefits Service we are looking for Revenues Support Officers to join a large team and assist with the billing and recovery of both Council Tax and National Non-Domestic Rates to ensure that the collection of Local Taxation is maximised.

We are looking to fill up to 3 full time posts, 37 hours per week on permanent contracts. Core working hours are 8:30am – 5:00pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am – 4:30pm on Fridays. You will adopt flexible working arrangements to meet the demands of the service.

Training will be undertaken at the Council offices for approximately 6 months after which hybrid working arrangements may be considered.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • As a Revenue Support Officer, you’ll mainly be responsible for collection of local taxation in Leicester City however, a key purpose is to maximise collection of Council Tax and Business Rates through educating your customers on both subjects.
  • In addition, you’ll ensure the maintenance of accurate records of Council Tax and Business Rates.
  • A typical day would include updating customer accounts either by emails or letters.
  • You will be promoting online services and encouraging the take up of various discounts, exemptions and reliefs relating to both Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rates and be a key player to ensuring customers occupying and vacating dwellings are dealt with in a timely manner to ensure that all records are accurate.
  • You will produce and issue bills and reminders and correspondence in relation to recovery and change payment methods and action credits on customer’s accounts and be responsible for updating lists produced by the Valuation Office Agency and update any changes highlighted by them in relation to the specified chargeable dwelling.

What You’ll Need

Many of our customers are vulnerable members of society so being able to deal with difficult and distressed customers in a sensitive and empathetic way is essential to this role. Having a calm and positive attitude, you’ll be able to deal with a range of enquiries within this department and with regards to the services provided by Leicester City Council. You’ll possess good communication skills sufficient to deal with a variety of customers including the vulnerable and disadvantaged groups across the City. As a Council employee, you’ll work using set policies and procedures, be able to interpret and apply relevant legislation relevant to the job role and be willing to verbally present new ideas and proposals. You will also have knowledge of using and managing a range of IT systems to perform day to day tasks such as producing and sending out bills, reminders, recovery correspondence, change payment methods and action credits on accounts in agreed timescales.
