About the role
NI Youth Forum is recruiting a Democratic Education Practitioner to support the delivery of our democratic education and participation work across Northern Ireland.
This role will involve developing and delivering high-quality democratic education programmes for young people aged 1130, as well as training and learning opportunities for youth practitioners and educators.
The postholder will support young people to develop the knowledge, confidence, skills and opportunities to participate in democracy, understand decision-making, engage with democratic processes and have their voices heard on issues that matter to them.
The role will include
- Designing, delivering and evaluating democratic education workshops, programmes, training and learning opportunities for young people.
- Delivering training for youth practitioners and educators.
- Supporting young people to take part in programmes, workshops, consultations, events and other youth participation opportunities.
- Working alongside young people to co-create democratic education resources, session plans, workshop materials, toolkits and youth-friendly information.
- Building positive working relationships with schools, youth services, community and voluntary organisations, statutory partners, funders and other stakeholders.
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate
- An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, such as youth work, education, teaching, politics, policy or law.
- Experience developing and delivering education programmes and workshops.
- Experience working with young people in a group work setting.
- Knowledge and understanding of Northern Ireland democratic systems, structures and processes.
- A full driving licence valid for use in the UK and access to a car at the time of appointment, unless a disability prevents this and suitable alternative arrangements can be made.
Political impartiality
As part of this post is funded by The Electoral Commission, political impartiality is crucial to this role and to the integrity of the project.
The role involves delivering impartial democratic education and supporting young people to understand democratic systems and processes without promoting, opposing or appearing to influence support for any political party, elected representative, candidate or electoral outcome.
