Job Description

We are looking for reliable, safety focused individuals to join us as Vessel Fire & Safety Officers within a busy shipbuilding environment. This hands‑on role protects people, assets, and operations from fire and safety risks while working with a wide range of trades and specialist teams. It is a unique opportunity to work within a highly secure defence environment with full training provided.

Shift Patterns

  • Day Shift: £15.16 per hour, 3 days on, 4 days off
  • Night Shift (Monday to Thursday): £15.88 per hour
  • Night Shift (3 nights on, 4 nights off): £16.91 per hour

This is a shift‑based role operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Responsibilities

  • Help protect people, assets, and operations within a busy shipbuilding and defence environment.
  • Monitor hot work activities and support safe working practices across the site.
  • Carry out fire safety checks and identify potential hazards.
  • Work closely with a variety of trades and teams to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Operate within vessels, confined spaces, and other challenging operational areas.
  • Support the delivery of fire safety standards across a nationally significant defence programme.

Essential Requirements

  • British citizen or have held a British passport for a minimum of five years.
  • Able to obtain Security Clearance (SC).
  • Five year checkable work history, with any employment gaps over two weeks explained.
  • Willingness to work in physically demanding conditions including heat, confined spaces, and at height.
  • Committed to following procedures and maintaining high safety standards.

Additional Information

  • Physically fit and able to work in demanding environments.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces, at height, in darkness, and in varying weather conditions.
  • Comfortable wearing breathing apparatus and other safety equipment.
  • Safety focused, reliable, and able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Previous experience in fire safety, emergency response, military, industrial, or security environments is beneficial but not essential.
