- Job Title: Course Director – BSc (Hons) Public Health with Foundation Year

Job Purpose
The Course Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for the BSc (Hons) Public Health with Foundation Year, ensuring the successful delivery of a high-quality academic programme that meets the standards of the awarding university, regulatory requirements and the College’s strategic objectives.
The post holder will lead curriculum development, quality assurance, student experience, assessment, academic staff and programme performance to maximise student recruitment, engagement, retention, progression and graduate outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Leadership
- Lead the strategic planning, delivery and continuous enhancement of the programme.
- Ensure the programme is delivered in accordance with awarding university regulations and College policies.
- Promote excellence in learning, teaching and assessment.
- Lead curriculum review, development and innovation to ensure the programme remains current and industry relevant.
- Foster a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement.
Student Experience
- Act as the academic lead for the programme and principal contact for student academic matters.
- Monitor attendance, engagement, progression and student performance.
- Implement interventions to improve retention and student success.
- Review student feedback and develop action plans to improve the student experience.
- Work collaboratively with Student Success Tutors and Wellbeing teams to support students.
Assessment & Quality Assurance
- Oversee assessment scheduling, moderation, marking and feedback.
- Ensure assessment processes comply with awarding university and College requirements.
- Coordinate examination boards and assessment panels.
- Lead Annual Programme Monitoring and quality enhancement activities.
- Monitor programme KPIs and implement continuous improvements.
Academic Team Management
- Lead and support Module Leaders, Lecturers and Personal Academic Tutors.
- Coordinate teaching allocations and academic resources.
- Support recruitment, induction and development of academic staff.
- Promote scholarship, research-informed teaching and professional development.
External Partnerships
- Build relationships with employers, healthcare organisations and professional bodies.
- Liaise with External Examiners and awarding university representatives.
- Support programme validation, review and accreditation activities.
- Promote employer engagement to enhance graduate employability.
Operational Responsibilities
- Ensure programme documentation remains accurate and compliant.
- Coordinate Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) setup and maintenance.
- Monitor programme budgets and resource requirements where appropriate.
- Support recruitment events, applicant interviews and Open Days.
- Prepare reports for senior management and partner universities.
General Responsibilities

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Honours degree in Public Health or a related discipline.
- Master’s degree in Public Health or a related subject.
Experience
- Significant Higher Education teaching experience.
- Experience leading a programme or modules.
- Experience in curriculum development and quality assurance.
- Experience working with UK Higher Education regulations.
- Experience improving student engagement and retention.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of UK Higher Education quality assurance frameworks.
- Understanding of assessment regulations and academic governance.
- Knowledge of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion principles.
- Understanding of student-centred learning and digital education.
Skills
- Excellent leadership and people management skills.
