The role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic individual to join the Primary Care team within NHS Prison Health Care at HMP Greenock. We work alongside our colleagues in the Scottish Prison Service as well as many other partner agencies to improve the physical and mental health and wellbeing of prisoners.The post holder is operationally responsible and professionally accountable to the Nurse Team Leader.This post is peripatetic across all four prisons in the Greater Glasgow & Clyde Health Board Area covering HMP Barlinnie, HMP Greenock, HMP Lilias and HMP Low Moss. Although you will be assigned a base, you will be expected to cross cover sites to meet the exigencies of the service.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Location based in HMP – Greenock
- Permanent Contract
- Full-time position (36 hours per week)
- Shift pattern for this post are Long Day, Early Shift, Late Shift, Weekend Working
Key responsibilities:
- You will manage a defined caseload, acting as keyworker/case manager for individuals with complex mental health and social care needs, including care coordinated under the Care Programme Approach (CPA).
- The post holder will assess risk, coordinate care, and contribute to the delivery and evaluation of mental health clinics and treatments within the prison setting.
- You will liaise effectively with a range of internal and external partners, including courts, prisons, Procurator Fiscal, consultant psychiatrists and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring timely assessments, documentation and partnership working.
- You will monitor clinical interventions, patient compliance and changes in mental state, escalating concerns appropriately and maintaining accurate clinical records in line with NMC, NHS and data protection requirements.
- The role requires building effective relationships with service users, carers and professionals, empowering patients in their recovery, adhering to NMC professional standards, participating in supervision and supporting continuous professional development within the nursing team
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- First Level Registered Nurse
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Post-registration experience working within a relevant clinical setting
- Awareness of professional and clinical accountability, legal issues, role limitations and boundaries and balancing duty of care and public safety issues.
- Literate in current IT techniques
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
