What you will do:

  • Assist the Cellular Pathology Laboratory Manager, Histology Chief Biomedical Scientist, and the Clinical Lead of the Histopathology Department in delivering a comprehensive clinical Histopathology service.
  • Achieve competency in accurately describing, selecting, and preparing a wide range of category A, B, and C specimens for histological diagnosis, progressing to an independent practitioner in dissection with remote supervision.
  • Apply personal judgement based on advanced experience and knowledge to guide decision-making for BMS and support staff within dissection.
  • Report any unexpected abnormal findings to a Pathologist promptly.
  • Continue to expand your dissection repertoire in line with service needs, training, and competency assessments.
  • Manage tissue preparation techniques, including fixation and decalcification.
  • Handle macrophotography of gross histology specimens.
  • Oversee sample and reagent preparation following department protocols.
  • Prepare specimens for consultant cut-up according to protocol schedules.
  • Resolve technical issues as they arise, providing appropriate reporting.
  • Advise and collaborate with non-departmental staff, including clinicians, theatre staff, and GPs, on correct biopsy collection and handling procedures.
  • Participate in laboratory processes such as embedding and microtomy as needed to support the workload.

Requirements:

  • HCPC registration with at least 2 years of experience in a similar role.
  • A car driver is preferable for ease of commuting and accessibility.
