Carry out standard automated hearing screening tests on all babies, record the results and discuss the results with the parents. Make appropriate onward referrals as required.
This will involve the direct handling of newborn babies and communicating with parents. The test are carried out on the maternity wards, in the Neonatal Unit and also weekly outpatients clinics.
The post holder will work as part of a team providing hearing screening of newborn babies under the supervision of the Hearing Screening Local Manager. They will be guided by National and Departmental procedures.
Being a flexible member of the hearing screening team, ensuring continuous coverage of the service and being able to work autonomously over a weekend or Bank Holiday., Identify which babies require screening and prioritise.
Liaise with parents, screening team members, ward staff, medical staff and other professionals.
Provide information to parents to enable them to make an informed choice on behalf of their baby.
overcome communication difficulties with parents who may have a hearing impairment, learning difficulty, where English is not their first language or may be emotionally distressed.
Carry out standard hearing screening tests.
Interpret results. Report difficulties in carrying out the tests, anomalous results of difficulties of interpretation to the Screening Manager
Discuss results of the screening tests.
Make appropriate referrals for further screening tests Audiological tests other diagnostic test or follow-ups,
To input data accurately to the National database (S4H) and check all details on the local Lorenzo system and against ward lists.
update client information, screening test results . To use the transfer in and out function on S4H for any babies born and tested in Barnsley but resident in another area or outside of Barnsley.
Ensure that the equipment is handled with care and is secure at all times, report any equipment problems to the Hearing Screening Manager carrying out daily and weekly calibration checks.
Organising outpatient clinics as necessary , text reminders to parents liaising with Health Visitors
Monitoring and ordering of stationary and clinical supplies.
