Job Description:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard working Assistant Clinical Psychologist to join the Buckinghamshire Chronic Pain and Fatigue Management Service.

This is a well established interdisciplinary service working with people with a wide range of chronic pain conditions and ME/CFS. You will support the work of clinical/counselling psychologists and other members of the team, providing interdisciplinary assessments and chronic pain and fatigue management programmes. You will be provided with regular supervision and support from experienced clinical psychologists. Good communication and team working skills are essential, but you do not have to have had prior experience of chronic pain and fatigue management. You will be based with the teams at our offices in Aylesbury and Amersham.

Main duties of the job

To support the work of Clinical Psychologists providing a specialist service to persons with chronic pain and fatigue. Specifically, to support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the service, across all sectors of care; providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures. To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

Person Specification

2.EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

  • An upper second-class honours degree or higher in psychology.
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society

3.EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant work experience with people with psychological and/or physical health problems e.g. Assistant Psychologist or other health and social care jobs.
  • High-level communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to provide complex and sensitive information to patients, carers and colleagues in a way that addresses barriers to understanding.
  • An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge and experience to a clinical health psychology context

4.SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

  • An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines.
  • Ability to sustain concentration during frequent therapeutic interactions
  • Enthusiastic, motivated and hard working.
  • An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge and experience to a clinical health psychology context
  • A desire to explore a career in Professional Psychology.
  • Ability to develop complex multimedia presentations.
