We are looking for an NMC registered nurse who would like to access a fully funded training opportunity (Level 7), to qualify as a registered specialist community public health nurse (School Nurse), commencing January 2026 with the University of Greenwich.

How to become a School Nurse?
Main duties of the job
Successful applicants will be sponsored/seconded on a midpoint Band 5 salary for the duration of the programme. Tuition fees are paid by the NHS. Travel expenses will be paid when on business travel only.
The programme consists of 50% academic study and 50% practice learning and runs over 45 weeks per year. University attendance is typically two days per week, alongside independent study and supervised practice within the School Nursing Service. You’ll gain experience working with children, young people and families across diverse communities, developing the knowledge, skills and professional competencies required for registration as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse). You’ll be supported by an experienced School Nursing team and receive supervision from a designated Practice Assessor/Supervisor throughout the programme.

Please note:
This role is being offered on a fixed-term basis for the duration of the training course. The organisation will fund your course fees; however, if you do not complete the course or choose not to remain with the organisation after successful completion (where a substantive role is available), you may be required to repay all or part of the course fees. Subject to the availability of vacancies, successful completion of the course may lead to an offer of a permanent role as a School Nurse (Band 6).

Job responsibilities
As a Student School Nurse (SCPHN), you will undertake a specialist community public health nursing programme while gaining practical experience within a School Nursing Team. Working under the supervision of qualified School Nurses and Practice Assessors, you will develop the knowledge, skills and professional competencies required to promote the health, wellbeing and safeguarding of children, young people and their families. The role involves contributing to health assessments, health promotion activities, safeguarding processes, and partnership working with schools, families and multi-agency professionals. During the programme, you will develop the competencies required for registration as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nursing) with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). - NMC (UK) registered with no restrictions to practice
- Hold a relevant degree, normally at 2:2 or above (a minimum of 120 credits at Level 6)
