Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians or equivalent
- Professional registration with the GPhC
Desirable criteria
- Accredited Checking Technician
- Accredited Medicines Optimisation Technician
Experience
Essential criteria
- Regular patient contact
- Experience of working in a busy pharmacy department in primary or secondary care
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a hospital pharmacy department.
- Experience of using Wellsky pharmacy computer system
- Experience of ward based working
- Experience of working in an Aseptic Unit
Technical Skills Competencies
Essential criteria
- Demonstrated ability to work methodically and accurately
- Able to analyse and interpret prescriptions, identify problems and decide upon an appropriate course of action
- Basic computer literacy & keyboard skills
- Neat, numerate
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good basic understanding of pharmacy law and ethics, roles and responsibilities
- Good understanding of delivering quality care and providing a safe and efficient service
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of aseptic working
- Knowledge of medicines optimisation
- Knowledge of the legal aspects of final accuracy checking and the law relating to prescriptions
