Assistant position – private medico-legal practice – Newcastle or Greater London
Forensis (Forensisltd.com) are a private medico-legal psychology practice based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. We conduct forensic and clinical psychological assessments, mainly in the family court system, but also in criminal courts. We receive instructions from Local Authorities or solicitors setting out a full background in a case and stating specific questions for our Consultant Psychologists to answer. The Assistant role entails assisting our consultants by preparing case summaries of the case papers and conducting psychometric testing with those being assessed. We use a wide variety of psychometric tests in order to understand psychological functioning and to assist with the formulation of opinion with the primary aim of protecting vulnerable children and facilitating legal process. The role offers very specialised daily experience and direct engagement with ‘clients’ and in the areas of intellectual functioning, criminality, sexual offences, domestic violence, substance misuse, emotional dysfunction, psychiatric illness, child neglect and abuse.
Much of the work can be conducted remotely at home however UK travel will also be required with full reimbursement and expenses paid. External supervision is offered with a fully qualified Clinical Psychologist and there will be the support of another experienced Assistant Psychologist. Full training will of course be provided on the use of psychometrics and scoring and how the assessment process works.
Based in either the Newcastle area or the Greater London area, Applicants will require a post graduate qualification allowing graduate membership with the BPS. Preferably applicants with previous experience of psychometric testing are sought, however for the right applicant full training will be provided by our other assistants. There will also be the opportunity for further CPD by way of supervising university placed psychology students.
It is anticipated that the role will commence in mid-December in order to allow training to be delivered in time for the New Year.
Salary – based upon experience from £22500 rising with progression. Experience will also influence salary
