Job summary

Join the Finance Team at theNorth East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) and play a key role in supporting the effective management of public finances that help deliver high-quality healthcare services to over 3 million people across the region.

Main duties of the job

As an Assistant Accountant, you will support senior finance colleagues in delivering a comprehensive financial service to a wide range of stakeholders across the organisation. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Producing timely, accurate and relevant financial information and reports.
  • Supporting budget management, forecasting and financial planning processes.
  • Completing reconciliations, investigating discrepancies and resolving complex financial queries.
  • Providing financial advice and guidance to managers and stakeholders, including non-finance colleagues.

The ICB is responsible for ensuring that high quality and safe health services are accessible to all of our communities. It has a wide range of functions, including; promoting integration of health and care services, improving peoples health and well-being, reducing health inequalities.

With a £6.6 billion budget and a workforce of 170,000 people across the North East and North Cumbria. As well as strategic functions, ICB staff also work at place level with local health and wellbeing boards in each of our 14 local authority areas. These teams also work alongside our 67 primary care networks which are groups of local GP practices, social care teams and other community- based area providers.

The ICB works with our Provider Collaborative too, this includes the 11 NHS Foundation Trusts in the region, to deliver our shared priorities.

  • Developing and maintaining spreadsheets, databases and financial systems.
  • Working closely with internal teams, auditors and external partners to ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Supporting continuous improvement, efficiency initiatives and the implementation of new financial guidance and systems

Qualifications

Essential

  • AAT Level 4 / Part Qualified Accountant or equivalent to degree level or equivalent experience.

Desirable

  • Minimum 5 GCSE’s grade A C or 5 to 9 including Maths and English or equivalent.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience and expertise of large integrated financial systems, processes and controls and dealing with large volumes of data in analysis.
  • Experience of working autonomously with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Experience of staff management.

Desirable

  • Experience of dealing with external agencies and audit
