Our client is a data-driven technology business that has invested seriously in its cloud data infrastructure and is scaling that capability further. They operate on AWS and have a mature data engineering function that is growing to meet increasing demand from both internal analytics teams and customer-facing data products. The team values engineering rigour, good pipeline design, and a collaborative approach to solving complex data problems.

THE ROLE

This is a senior Data Engineer role focused on designing, building, and maintaining the data pipelines and infrastructure that power analytics, reporting, and AI workloads across the business. You will be working primarily within the AWS ecosystem, building robust, scalable, and well-tested pipelines using services such as Glue, Redshift, Lambda, and S3. You will collaborate closely with data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to ensure data is available, reliable, and fit for purpose. The team works in an Agile environment, ships frequently, and expects engineers to take ownership of their infrastructure end to end.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and build scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows using AWS-native services
  • Develop and maintain data models and schemas in Redshift and related stores
  • Ensure data quality, reliability, and lineage across ingestion, transformation, and serving layers
  • Automate pipeline orchestration using Step Functions, Apache Airflow or similar
  • Collaborate with data scientists to productionise model outputs and feature pipelines
  • Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Monitor pipeline performance, manage incidents, and improve reliability over time
  • Contribute to data governance, documentation, and engineering best practice

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Essential

  • 4+ years of commercial data engineering experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS data services (Glue, Redshift, S3, Lambda, Step Functions)
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for pipeline development and data transformation
  • Experience designing and building reliable ETL/ELT pipelines at scale
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code (Terraform or CloudFormation)
  • Right to work in the UK or Republic of Ireland

Nice to have

  • Experience with streaming data (Kinesis, Kafka or similar)
  • Apache Airflow or similar orchestration tooling
  • Exposure to dbt for transformation layer management
