You will be working in the Infrastructure OU in where we are responsible for bringing design, build and refurbishment excellence to complex civil engineering projects nationwide – combining technical expertise with a passion for creating lasting value for people and places.

We are currently looking for a Head of Planning who will lead the planning function across the Infrastructure Operating Unit (OU). To maintain a consistently high standard of planning across our projects that contributes to the commercial success of the Operating Unit.

As the Head of Planning, you will:

  • Lead the long, medium and short term planning approach for Skanska Infrastructure taking account of both the customer and Skanska’s planning requirements to ensure the planning team delivers a positive impact for projects and the wider business.
  • Manage planning resources across the OU, providing clear functional leadership and direction. Lead planning recruitment and development.
  • Drive collaboration between planning teams across projects and sectors with the aim of continuous improvement.
  • Maintain, and where necessary, introduce, planning training for both the development of planners and non-planners to improve project performance. Establish and deliver training to maintain a pipeline of planners.
  • Own the OU planning standards working with the planning team to introduce improvements where necessary. As appropriate, for consistency, these standards should be aligned with other OU and BU’s standards. Ensure all programmes are developed and managed inline with our OU wide planning standards.

We are looking for:

  • Significant delivery and planning experience with a Tier 1 infrastructure contractor across all stages of a project lifecycle. Experience of various methods of planning and planning software and resource and cost loading programmes.
  • Understanding of the construction market, all stages of a project, methods of construction, plant, equipment and labour requirements.
  • Technical knowledge of construction techniques, principles and best practices probably developed through both formal education (degree / HNC/HND in Civil Engineering / Construction) and practical experience (site management with an infrastructure contractor).
  • Professionally qualified – MICE or similar.
  • Understanding of the impacts of various forms of contract on time and how to manage that within the programme.
  • Experience of managing teams of planners.
