Lead Rheumatology Clinical Nurse Specialist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced specialist rheumatology nurse to advance within the Rheumatology team at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. You will oversee the day‑to‑day coordination of care and lead the Rheumatology Clinical Nurse Specialist team, inspiring and developing the specialist nursing workforce to deliver high‑standard professional practice and care.
Requirements for the role include in‑depth knowledge of a range of rheumatic conditions, efficient management of complex specialised patients, and ensuring comprehensive support for patients, families and colleagues within the department.
Main duties
- Manage and lead a specialist service with responsibility for ensuring high quality, cost‑effective care.
- Lead a workforce of specialist nurses across a division.
- Assess, plan, diagnose, implement and evaluate care as an autonomous practitioner with highly specialist skills.
- Participate in strategic reviews of clinical services as appropriate.
- Implement an integrated approach to patient care encompassing new treatments and evidence‑based practice.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Registered General Nurse (RGN) with a degree.
- Post‑registration module in a specialist field of work.
- Research module completed.
- Advanced clinical assessment skills (if nurse‑led services form part of the role).
- Evidence of professional continuous development and a portfolio of learning.
- Leadership or management module completed.
- Willingness and ability to work towards a master’s degree.
- Non‑medical prescriber qualification.
- Advanced communication skills or a counselling qualification.
Knowledge / Experience
- Significant clinical experience as a nurse specialist in the speciality.
- Expertise in clinical assessment and diagnosis.
- Experience in project management.
- Evidence of leading service change.
- Experience managing a budget.
- Experience leading and managing a team.
- Practical experience in policy development.
- Audit or research experience.
- Experience working within the NHS.
