This post is appointed on a fixed-term basis for the primary purpose of providing structured training and supervised clinical development. While the postholder will contribute to service delivery, the overarching purpose of the post is to provide defined educational opportunities, supervised clinical practice, and experience aligned to the relevant specialty training curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical care in medical retina, including complex conditions such as Uveitis, Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinal Vein Occlusions, and inherited retinal diseases.
• Assist in cataract surgery lists to broaden surgical exposure.
• Participate in national clinical trials and research projects.
• Publish research findings.
• Engage in teaching programmes.
• Complete audit projects.
• Maintain clinical documentation and produce reports.
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

• MRCOphth or equivalent
• Full GMC registration (or eligibility)
• Knowledge of medical retinal conditions and OCT interpretation
• Minimum 12 months specialist ophthalmology practice
• Experience in medical retina
• Experience in teaching (preferred)
• Research experience (preferred)
• Surgeon experience (bonus)
• Post CCT (preferred)
• Further qualifications (preferred)
• Eligibility for Skilled Worker sponsorship (required for some applicants)

• Able to perform intra-vitreal injections (desirable).
• Able to perform Pascal laser treatments for diabetic retinopathy (desirable).
