Job overview
The post holder will manage and oversee the UHBW Adult BMT & IEC and Paediatric Haematology, Oncology & BMT Quality Management Programme, ensuring that the programme meets regulatory and accreditation requirements while supporting continual service development and improvement. The role includes maintaining the Quality Management System and controlled document portfolio, coordinating audit and inspection activity, managing adverse events, CAPA processes, risk registers, outcome monitoring, governance reporting, staff training records, credentialling and competency records. The post holder will work closely with clinical, pharmacy, administrative and management colleagues across divisions, as well as external bodies including JACIE, HTA, NHS England, NHSBT, UKHSA, Anthony Nolan Donor Registry, BSBMTCT and EBMT.
Main duties of the job
Lead and maintain the Quality Management System for Bone Marrow Transplant, Cellular Therapy, and Paediatric Haematology/Oncology services, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards (including JACIE and HTA).
Oversee governance, risk, and audit processes, including inspections, internal audits, incident management, CAPA plans, risk registers, validation studies, and quality improvement initiatives.
Provide expert advice and support to clinical and management teams on quality management, information governance, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and best practice.
Manage quality documentation and data, including policies, SOPs, clinical guidelines, training records, regulatory submissions, governance reports, and cell storage databases.
Drive service development and continuous improvement through audit outcomes, risk assessment, trend analysis, process redesign, and change management to improve safety, efficiency, and compliance.
Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and external regulatory, accreditation, and professional bodies to support programme delivery and compliance.
Provide leadership and line management for staff, including recruitment, appraisal, performance management, training, and professional development.
Contribute to patient safety and experience by ensuring robust quality systems, effective governance, confidentiality, and learning from incidents, complaints, and adverse events.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This role is responsible for leading and maintaining a comprehensive Quality Management and Governance Programme across Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT), Immune Effector Cell (IEC) therapy, and Paediatric Haematology and Oncology services. The post holder works closely with clinical, pharmacy, administrative and management teams, as well as external regulatory and accreditation bodies, to ensure compliance with national and international standards, including JACIE and HTA requirements. Key responsibilities include managing audits, inspections, risk registers, incidents, CAPA programmes, policies, SOPs, quality documentation and governance processes; overseeing data reporting, regulatory submissions and cell storage reviews; and providing expert advice on quality, governance and information management. The role also supports service development, continuous improvement and organisational compliance through audit, risk assessment, validation studies and outcome monitoring, while contributing to patient safety and experience indirectly through robust quality systems. In addition, the post holder provides leadership and line management to staff, manages agreements and financial reporting related to transplant and cellular therapy programmes, and works autonomously to deliver high standards of governance, regulatory compliance and quality assurance.

Education and qualifications
- Education to degree level, or equivalent experience
- Good general standard of education, including GCSEs grade A-C in English and Maths, or equivalent
- Computer literate and trained in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook
- Demonstrates awareness of the limits of own practice and knowledge and when to seek appropriate support or advice
