Advanced Practice Dietitian – Inherited Metabolic Disorders
This role will provide expert dietary assessment, management and support for children, young people and adults with complex inherited metabolic conditions across Scotland. Working within a national multidisciplinary team, you will influence service development, lead specialist clinical practice, and improve outcomes for patients and families.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- Full‑time, fixed‑term for 12 months
- Based at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow
- Working pattern: 5 days over 7
Key Responsibilities
- Provide highly specialist dietetic assessment, treatment and ongoing management for patients with inherited metabolic disorders.
- Develop, implement and evaluate complex nutritional care plans using evidence‑based practice and advanced clinical judgement.
- Lead and support dietetic management within specialist clinics, including the development of dietitian‑led services for patients with PKU.
- Give expert advice and support to patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals across NHS Scotland.
- Contribute to service development, clinical audit, research projects and the creation of national guidance and educational resources.
- Deliver education, training and clinical supervision to dietitians, support staff, students and other healthcare professionals.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure high‑quality, patient‑centred and holistic care.
Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience
- BSc Honours Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent with HCPC registration.
- Postgraduate study at Masters level or equivalent specialist postgraduate training relevant to dietetics.
- Substantial specialist dietetic experience at Band 6 level or above within acute paediatric dietetics or adult inherited metabolic disorders.
- Proven experience leading audits, service evaluations, guideline development, research projects or service improvement initiatives.
- Excellent clinical reasoning, organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage a demanding and complex caseload.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, educate and support patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively across multiple sites while contributing to the ongoing development of a national specialist service.
