Overview

Prospero Teaching is currently looking for a dedicated and compassionate Year 9 SEMH Tutor to provide 1:1 tuition for a Year 9 student in Poole.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support a young person with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs who is currently being educated outside of a mainstream school setting. Tuition will take place in the student’s home, where you will deliver engaging, personalised sessions that help rebuild confidence, develop positive learning behaviours, and support academic progress.

The successful tutor will be able to build a strong, trusting relationship with the student and adapt their teaching style to meet individual needs. Sessions will focus primarily on English, Maths, Functional Skills, and Personal Development, with an emphasis on engagement and fostering a positive learning experience.

Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 home tuition sessions for the Year 9 student, focusing on English, Maths, Functional Skills and Personal Development.

Deliver engaging and personalised lessons that rebuild confidence, develop positive learning behaviours, and support academic progress.

Complete brief weekly feedback forms to monitor progress, attendance, engagement, and achievements.

Contract & Position Details

  • Location: Student’s home – Poole
  • Position: Year 9 SEMH Tutor
  • Delivery: 1:1 Home Tuition
  • Subjects: English, Maths, Functional Skills, Personal Development
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Duration: Ongoing
  • Contract Type: Part‑time
  • Rate of Pay: £25‑£30 per hour
  • Hours: Flexible (to be agreed with the family and local authority)

Desired Qualifications & Experience

  • QTS, QTLS, PGCE, or an equivalent teaching qualification
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs
  • Experience delivering 1:1 tuition, alternative provision, or working within a UK school
  • Up‑to‑date Safeguarding training (issued within the last year)

Eligibility Requirements

  • Hold the Right to Work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced DBS certificate registered with the Update Service, or be willing to apply for a new DBS
  • Provide two professional child‑related references
  • Have a minimum of one year’s experience working within an educational setting

Additional Information

As part of employment, you will be required to register with Prospero Teaching before commencing work. If you do not hold an enhanced DBS certificate, Prospero Teaching can assist with processing a new application.
