Senior Occupational Therapist – Inpatient Rehabilitation
To manage a defined caseload, using evidence based/patient centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate occupational therapy interventions.
To provide leadership for junior staff as delegated by Team lead Occupational Therapist.
To supervise Occupational therapy students on practice placements.
To assist the Band 7 Team Leader for ensuring the provision of an exceptional standard of Occupational Therapy service in conjunction with the multi‑professional team.
To assist and take responsibility in the absence of the Band 7 OT Team Leader for the effective and efficient day‑to‑day running of Occupational Therapy Service.
The Band 6 OT will carry out assessment (standardised or locally agreed) and plan and implement treatment programmes as appropriate for the patient and clinical area, and supervise junior/therapy support staff.
This post has opportunities to work across inpatient services at Chase Farm Hospital & St Michael’s sites with potential future rotation into community services.
The Band 6 Occupational Therapist will participate in a 7‑day therapy service.
Main duties of the job
To assess the occupational needs of a defined patient group and establish and evaluate appropriate treatment programmes.
To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for patients with multiple needs to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.
To participate in multi‑disciplinary assessment and treatment provision.
To select and apply occupational therapy assessments for a designated caseload, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling the patient in areas of self‑maintenance, productivity and leisure.
To communicate effectively with users, carers, team members and agencies including those with sensory disabilities.
To plan and implement individual or group interventions, in collaboration with the patient, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
To provide support and education to patients and carers regarding all aspects of occupational therapy, e.g., equipment fitting, rehab programmes.
To work with patients to identify OT goals as part of the overall care plan, using standardised and local OT assessment tools.
To take a lead role in the overview of discharge planning for every patient, recommending services and appropriate follow‑up at home.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
- Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Current H.C.P.C. Registration
- Evidence of ongoing relevant CPD in portfolio
- Post‑graduate modules with CPD credits
- Student clinical educator
- Member of a Special Interest Group
Work Experience
- Post Registration experience in a physical health setting and discharge planning
- Experience supervising/teaching staff, students, or volunteers
- Experience working in the NHS
- Application of the OT process from admission to discharge
- Experience in discharge planning
- Experience of equipment prescription and environmental assessments within home environments
- Inpatient service / rehabilitation experience
- Experience working alone on home and access visits
- Experience with patients presenting with a mental health condition
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to relate clinical knowledge to practice

Salary: £45,953 to £54,254 a year Inclusive of Outer HCAS.
