Overview

Purpose of the role: Performs a variety of routine servicing, inspections and repairs to Distribution Tractors, Ro-Ro Tractors and other sea port equipment, Aircraft Equipment (GSE) and other manufacturers’ products on customer premises when requested. Conducts visual or operational checks to locate worn, dirty or maladjusted parts and uses technical manuals and diagnostic techniques to locate and repair inoperable or defective parts or systems. Undertakes thorough inspections of accident-damaged machines and produces accurate reports to enable repair. Works with limited supervision while observing all company and site Health & Safety requirements at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the Terberg DTS Service Department in the field with high standards of appearance, manner and technical ability.
  • Work as an effective member of the Service Department.
  • Undertake tasks and assignments issued by the Service Department, either orally or via electronic work instructions.
  • Determine repair and maintenance techniques, equipment selection, materials and implement appropriate safety measures (e.g., eye protection, suitable clothing).
  • Obtain customer agreement that work is completed as required and secure signature and purchase order number where necessary.
  • Perform inventory procedures related to vehicle parts stock to maintain an accurate account of components carried and used.
  • Ensure maintenance and repairs comply with manufacturer instructions and the company Safe System of Work.
  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Health & Safety Policy and contribute to statutory obligations in the workplace.
  • Attend required training courses/seminars as the business requires.
  • Keep all company equipment in a clean, safe and presentable manner and ensure company equipment is secure when not in use.
  • Use mobile phones in line with current legislation.
  • Collaborate with all departments, especially on projects being explored or implemented.
  • Be prepared to work additional hours, including out-of-hours call outs, and to work away from home on customer vehicles when required.
  • Undertake any other duties consistent with the purpose of this job or to support business needs.

Critical Knowledge Required

  • Knowledge of current road traffic law (speed limits, weight restrictions, drivers’ hours, etc.).
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance and repairs in line with manufacturers’ recommendations and Safe System of Work.
  • Knowledge of Terberg Tugs.
  • Knowledge of latest diagnostic systems.

Qualifications and Experience

  • City and Guilds Level 3 – Vehicle Mechanical and Electronic Systems – Maintenance and Repair Qualification or equivalent.
  • Substantial experience in Auto Electrician fault diagnosis and repairs, including use of electronic diagnostic equipment; experience with heavy goods or specialist vehicles.
  • UK valid driving licence.
