We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the mobilisation and delivery of Heavy Maintenance and Rolling Stock Overhaul projects. Acting as the central point of accountability, you’ll manage projects from initiation through to completion, ensuring projects are delivered safely, compliantly, on time and within budget.
Working closely with customers and internal stakeholders, you’ll be responsible for planning, coordinating and controlling all aspects of project delivery. You’ll act as the primary customer contact throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring requirements are understood, managed and successfully delivered.
This role offers exposure across engineering, production and commercial functions and will suit a confident Project Manager who enjoys balancing customer engagement, project governance, operational coordination and financial performance within a fast-paced engineering environment.
Project Manager Responsibilities
Project Delivery: Lead Heavy Maintenance and Rolling Stock Overhaul projects through the full project lifecycle, ensuring delivery against project objectives.
Customer & Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary point of contact for customers and stakeholders, developing strong relationships and ensuring project requirements are successfully delivered.
Project Planning & Control: Prepare and manage project management plans, detailed programmes, responsibility matrices and resource plans.
Commercial & Financial Management: Monitor project costs, revenue and margins, identifying opportunities to improve project performance and profitability.
Performance Reporting: Produce project dashboards, status reports and management information, providing analysis and insights to stakeholders.
Risk & Change Management: Identify project risks and issues, develop mitigation plans and support the effective management of project change.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, production, commercial, health & safety and training teams to ensure projects are correctly resourced and delivered successfully.
Project Governance: Coordinate internal and customer project meetings, manage actions and ensure effective communication throughout delivery.
Continuous Improvement: Support project closure activities, benefits reviews and lessons learned exercises to improve future project delivery.
Ideal Project Manager
Project Management Experience: Proven experience managing projects within engineering or manufacturing environments, ideally within rail or rolling stock.
Qualifications: Degree qualified in Engineering or holding a recognised Project Management qualification such as PRINCE2 or equivalent. Leadership or management qualifications would be advantageous.
Project Delivery Expertise: Demonstrable track record of successfully delivering projects to agreed timescales, scope and quality standards.
Customer-Focused Approach: Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build and maintain effective customer relationships.
Commercial Awareness: Experience managing project budgets, costs and financial performance.
Planning & Organisation: Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
Technical Capability: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Project, with the ability to produce detailed project plans and reports.
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Location & Working Arrangements
Location: Treforest, South Wales
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Working Pattern:
- Monday to Thursday: 08:30 to 17:00
- Friday: 08:30 to 14:30
