Job Overview
Assistant Psychologist / Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner – supporting a multidisciplinary team to provide specialist assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism who may have complex mental health needs, challenging behaviours, forensic histories, or additional neurodevelopmental conditions.
Responsibilities
- Support the Clinical Psychologist in functional assessment, planning and delivery of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approaches to children and young people with challenging behaviours and mental health needs.
- Where directed, work independently in assessing, planning, implementing and monitoring PBS plans.
- Collect and analyse clinical outcomes data and contribute to audits and research.
- Maintain relevant registers and databases, ensuring PBS plans are kept to the highest standards.
- Provide cover for psychology colleagues as required and maintain confidentiality.
- Communicate professionally with internal and external professionals.
Qualifications & Experience
- Assistant Psychologist or PBS Practitioner.
- Bachelor’s degree relevant to registration.
- Post‑graduate qualification in Applied Behaviour Analysis or PBS, or sufficient relevant experience in a PBS service (desirable).
- Minimum one year of experience working with young people with complex mental health, learning disability and/or autism and behaviour that challenges.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of policies, procedures and clinical issues related to the service‑user group.
- Experience conducting functional and other assessment of challenging behaviour.
- Experience utilising PBS in hospital settings with CYP with LD and/or ASD and/or complex mental health.
Location
The Learning Disabilities and Autism (LD&A) Regional Service based in the Midlands and North region, covering Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, South Yorkshire and Staffordshire, with expansion planned to County Durham.
