Consultant Anaesthetist

Salary £111,430 – £148,064 per annum plus Distant Island Allowance £1,461 per annum

Hours 40 hours per week

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide anaesthetic care for up to 10 Planned Anaesthesia (PA) procedures per week, with a maximum of 2 Emergency Anaesthesia (EPA) procedures per week.
  • Work collaboratively with a team of four other consultants in the Anaesthetics Department at Western Isles Hospital.
  • Participate in on‑call rota (1:4 coverage) and adhere to an agreed availability allowance of 8%.
  • Support care for the 85 inpatient beds and 16 day‑surgery beds in a rural general hospital setting.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Registered on the GMC Specialist Register with licence to practice, or eligible for inclusion within 6 months of interview.
  • Experience and competency in delivering planned and emergency anaesthesia in a rural general hospital environment.
  • Willingness to comply with NHS Terms and Conditions of the New Consultant Grade (Scotland) 2004.
  • Ready to register with the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.
  • Open to alternative working models (on/off island arrangements, annualised, part‑time or job‑share) subject to service requirements.
