Job Title: Scientist – Research and Development

Location: South Mimms, Hertfordshire

Contract: Full‑time, fixed‑term until 31 August 2027

Overview

MHRA Scientific Research and Innovation (SR&I) is seeking a Scientist to join the Formulation Science team within the Analytical and Biological Sciences (ABS) Division. The role focuses on supporting the InSPIREmed project – a partnership program that develops integrated photonic process analytical technologies for medicines manufacture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scientific project delivery, including planning, execution and reporting of experiments.
  • Data analysis and generation of clear written and visual reports.
  • Stakeholder engagement across multidisciplinary internal teams and external partners.
  • Laboratory management and quality assurance, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 and ALCOA principles.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience in biological materials handling and formulation, preferably with freeze‑drying (lyophilisation).
  • Proficiency in controlled laboratory environments (e.g., microbiological safety cabinets, aseptic techniques).
  • Strong record‑keeping skills and adherence to compliant documentation standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, with an ability to collaborate across diverse disciplines.
  • Capability to support lab operations, including consumables management and resource planning.

Technical & Experience Criteria

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience and theoretical knowledge.
  • Demonstrated experience in a scientific laboratory with health and safety compliance.
  • Hands‑on manipulation of biological samples and analytical techniques for liquid and solid‑state biological medicines or reference materials.
