Overview

Occupational Therapist – Older People’s Mental Health (Senior Specialist) at the Orchard Clinic, Royal Edinburgh Hospital. Work in an in‑patient setting with older adults experiencing complex mental health needs, including dementia.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments and develop occupational formulation plans.
  • Implement positive risk‑taking and rehabilitation strategies to reduce length of stay.
  • Facilitate decision‑making on discharge destinations and help plan safe, timely discharge.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and liaise with families, carers and support services.
  • Participate in clinical and professional supervision.
  • Engage in quality improvement, innovative practice and ongoing training.
  • Act as an advocate for occupational therapy within Older People’s pathways.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Excellent communication and collaborative working skills.
  • Self‑motivated, enthusiastic team player capable of motivating others.
  • Pass a PVG Scheme membership/record for the required regulatory group (child and/or adult). If not a current member, a satisfactory application to Disclosure Scotland must be completed before start.
  • Experience in older people’s mental health or equivalent is highly desirable.
