Shift Pattern
0900 – 1700 three days per week.
Qualifications
- Full registration with the General Medical Council, licence to practice, and eligibility for the GMC Specialist Register.
- UK‑trained applicants must have evidence of higher Specialist Training leading to a CCT or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within six months of confirmed entry at the date of interview.
- Non‑UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
Responsibilities
- Inpatient consultant post with additional liaison service for older adults at Vale of Leven District General Hospital.
- Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team comprising 5 consultant psychiatrists and 4 speciality psychiatrists.
- Engage in teaching and training of University of Glasgow medical students; holder of recognised trainer status.
- Lead quality improvement and governance activities for the service and provide clinical leadership of the MDT.
- Participation in the North Glasgow on‑call psychiatry rota, with a minimum 1:25 ratio.
Location & Services
Vale of Leven District General Hospital: 92 beds plus a minor injuries unit; no A&E department. Psychiatric wards include Katrine Ward (functional acute, 6 beds) and Fruin Ward (organic acute, 8 beds). The catchment area is approximately 14,400 adults aged 65 years and over. Community mental health services are based at the Cairnmhor resource centre in Dumbarton, with the Helensburgh community mental health team hosted by West Dunbartonshire Community Health Partnership. Services are supported by inpatient psychology, social work, crisis teams and primary care mental health teams.
