Job Description
We are currently recruiting an experienced and highly motivated HGV Technician to support DPD’s vehicle fleet. The successful candidate will report to the VMU Manager and work as part of a team responsible for inspecting, servicing, maintaining and repairing the DPD HGV fleet, which includes approximately 1500 tractor units and 3000 trailers.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine scheduled safety inspections in accordance with DVSA requirements.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic faults on the fleet.
- Complete repairs and replacements on components, including:
- Engines and transmissions
- Brake systems
- Suspension systems
- Steering systems
- Electrical systems and diagnostics
- Exhaust and emission systems
- Prepare vehicles to a high standard for MOT testing and ensure all compliance standards are met.
- Maintain accurate service records, defect reports and inspection documentation.
- Ensure vehicles meet road safety regulations and legal compliance standards.
- Use diagnostic equipment and software for systematic fault identification and efficient resolution of mechanical and electrical faults.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment in accordance with health and safety standards.
- Maintain tools, equipment and diagnostic systems in working order.
- Collaborate with other technicians, VMU technical operatives and management staff to ensure efficient fleet maintenance.
The role is based within the workshop at our Hub site in Hinckley.
Requirements
- Proven experience within a similar Heavy Goods or Heavy Plant role.
- NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and repair (or equivalent).
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of the guide to maintaining roadworthiness.
- Strong knowledge of heavy vehicle mechanical, electrical and braking systems.
- Team player capable of working independently.
- Ability to read technical manuals, diagnostic reports and repair manuals.
- Excellent problem‑solving and diagnostic skills.
- Good organisational and time‑management skills, able to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Commitment to Health, Safety and compliance standards.

Desirables
- IRTEC licence.
- HGV Class 1 licence.
- Experience working on Mercedes, DAF, MAN and Volvo tractor units.
- Experience working on G&A and Tiger lifting deck trailers.
