Associate Director, Building Surveying

Built Asset Solutions | Southampton | Permanent | Full-time | Hybrid working

About the role

This role is a strategic hire for our Southampton office and South regional Built Asset Solutions team. We are looking for an Associate Director who can lead building surveying commissions, drive the growth of our projects offering and expand our presence in a key market. Alongside client leadership and commercial focus, you will manage, mentor and develop team members, helping build the capability, confidence and culture needed for long-term success.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished chartered building surveyor to take the next step in their career. You will lead commissions, advise clients on complex built asset matters and support the growth of our Southampton building surveying business.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of varied building surveying commissions across client portfolios and built assets
  • Build, develop and retain senior client relationships, acting as a trusted adviser on strategic property and asset matters
  • Support regional growth by identifying opportunities, securing work and delivering commissions
  • Manage, mentor and develop junior team members, building capability and supporting the growth of future leaders

About you

You will be a commercially minded chartered building surveyor with a growth mindset and a people focused approached to internal and external relationships. You will be highly skilled in project design, specification and contract administration, with excellent knowledge of construction contracts.

You will also need:

  • Significant building surveying experience, with the ability to lead complex instructions and senior client engagements
  • Experience leading business development, client relationship management and winning work
  • Commercial judgement and the ability to balance client service with business performance
  • The credibility to advise senior stakeholders and represent Gleeds in the market
  • A collaborative and encouraging management style

Experience, Knowledge and Key Skills

  • Broad, in-depth Building Surveying experience post MRICS qualification
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction procurement strategies, including tendering and contract strategies
  • Clear in-use understanding of building contracts
  • Excellent communication, organisational skills and the ability to quickly adapt to changes
  • Excellent problem solving, negotiating skills, financial and numeracy management skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and lead teams

Qualifications

  • MRICS (Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors)
