This is a hands‑on leadership role where you’ll be responsible for managing the day‑to‑day activities of the engineering function, ensuring equipment reliability, driving continuous improvement, and leading a skilled maintenance team within a fast‑paced environment.

Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will lead the engineering team to maximise equipment availability, minimise downtime, and support operational excellence across the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate and develop the engineering team to achieve high performance.
- Plan, prioritise and coordinate maintenance activities across the site.
- Ensure planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules are completed effectively.
- Respond to breakdowns, providing technical support and driving root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
- Promote a proactive maintenance culture focused on continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental procedures.
- Manage engineering resources and contractors where required.
- Monitor engineering KPIs and identify opportunities to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Support capital investment and equipment improvement projects.
- Work closely with production and operations teams to maximise plant performance.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience leading or supervising an engineering or maintenance team.
- Strong background within a manufacturing, production or industrial environment.
- Mechanical and/or electrical engineering qualifications (Apprenticeship, HNC/HND or Degree).
- Experience with planned preventative maintenance systems.
- Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving abilities.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation within manufacturing.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities.
Desirable
- Multi‑skilled engineering background.
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean, TPM or Six Sigma.
- Knowledge of CMMS systems.
- Experience leading engineering improvement or reliability projects.
