We have an exciting opportunity for a part‑time Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join our Integrated Mental Health team with an element of shared care across the wider team at HMP Wakefield – a category A prison in Wakefield. The Advanced Clinical Practitioner (Mental Health) is a patient‑facing, non‑managerial role and will play a pivotal role in delivering high quality, evidence‑based mental health care within the prison environment.
Hours and Salary
Working 26 hours a week, 7 hours a day across 4 days. This position is part‑time; you will receive an annual salary up to £64,750 per annum FTE – depending on experience.

Main duties of the job
- Provide advanced assessment, formulation, diagnosis, and management of individuals presenting with a wide range of mental health conditions, including severe mental illness, personality disorder, trauma‑related needs, and complex dual diagnoses.
- Promote best practice, clinical supervision, and a culture of reflection and learning by pro‑actively leading and motivating the team. Support and work alongside clinical leads and team members to deliver training sessions to healthcare and prison staff on mental health, risk, trauma and behaviour management.
- Participate in internal and external inspections, reviews and professional meetings which will drive quality improvement and contribute to service transformation projects within the mental health pathway.
- Work alongside the clinical lead to contribute to service development, provide clinical leadership across pathways, and support the delivery of trauma‑informed, person‑centred, and safe care.
Qualifications required
- Registered Nurse Mental Health, with current NMC registration. Consideration will be given to applicants from other professional disciplines who can demonstrate experience of working with patients with complex mental health conditions.
- Independent or supplementary prescriber qualification.
- MSc in Advanced Practice.
- Experience of working within mental health services, ideally in secure mental health, crisis, acute, community settings and good knowledge of the MHA.
- Understanding of risk management, self‑harm prevention, suicide prevention, trauma‑informed care.
- Drive quality improvement, clinical audit, governance and contribute to service transformation projects.
- Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and support to Band 7 clinicians, RMNs, HCAs, and students.
