Sanctuary Personnel is recruiting for an experienced Advanced Practitioner Social Worker to join a dynamic Children’s Services team based in Burton-on-Trent. This exciting locum Social Worker opportunity offers an excellent hourly rate of £45.00 per hour, with countywide travel expenses reimbursed, making it an ideal role for experienced practitioners who enjoy working across a variety of teams and supporting high-quality social work practice.

This role is perfect for an accomplished Senior Social Worker or Advanced Practitioner who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys mentoring colleagues, and is confident managing complex safeguarding cases while helping improve outcomes for children and families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a complex caseload involving children, young people, and families across multiple service areas.
  • Provide expert social work practice, supporting teams with complex safeguarding, child protection, and statutory casework.
  • Complete high-quality assessments, risk assessments, care planning, and reviews.
  • Offer professional guidance, coaching, and mentoring to qualified social workers and newly qualified staff.
  • Support teams experiencing increased demand, ensuring statutory responsibilities are met.
  • Work collaboratively with education, health, police, legal services, and partner agencies to safeguard children.
  • Prepare detailed court reports, assessments, and professional documentation to a high standard.
  • Promote best practice, continuous improvement, and high-quality social work across Children’s Services.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, statutory guidance, and local safeguarding procedures.
  • Qualified Social Worker with a recognised Social Work qualification.
  • Current registration with Social Work England.
  • Significant post-qualified experience within Children’s Social Care.
  • Previous experience as an Advanced Practitioner, Senior Social Worker, or within complex safeguarding teams.
  • Strong knowledge of Child Protection, Children in Need, Duty and Assessment, Safeguarding, and court work.
  • Excellent leadership, decision-making, assessment, and communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel countywide.
  • Ability to work flexibly across different teams and service areas.
