Sandwell Council’s Adult Social Care Division is seeking an experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to join its team on a full‑time, permanent basis.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Occupational Therapist to help deliver an outstanding customer experience that promotes wellbeing, independence, and quality of life within local communities. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide clinical leadership and specialist advice on adaptations, equipment provision, and independent living solutions for vulnerable adults, children, and carers.
You will support Occupational Therapy Assistants, undertake holistic assessments, recommend cost‑effective and appropriate equipment, and work collaboratively with partners to ensure high‑quality outcomes for service users. The role focuses on enabling people to remain safe, independent, and confident in their own homes for as long as possible, preventing or delaying the need for more intensive support.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of safeguarding, relevant legislation, information governance, and person‑centred practice. They will champion best practice, contribute to service development, and work closely with colleagues to deliver consistent, high‑quality services that support both customer and organisational outcomes.
The role
- Conduct holistic assessments and develop person‑centred solutions to support independence.
- Provide specialist clinical advice on adaptations, equipment, and assistive technology.
- Support and mentor Occupational Therapy Assistants within the team.
- Work collaboratively with health, social care, and community partners.
- Ensure accurate record keeping and compliance with legislation, safeguarding, and data protection requirements.
- Promote best practice, service improvement, and positive outcomes for vulnerable adults, children, and carers.
- Enable individuals to retain or regain skills, confidence, and control over their lives.
About you
- BSC or Diploma in Occupational Therapy is a must.
- Demonstratable experience operating within an adult social care environment.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
- Evidence of, or willingness to, undertake further training, such as BIA training safeguarding adults training if not achieved already.
- Knowledge and understanding of customer care practices.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance in this field.
- Knowledge of Assessment Frameworks including risk assessment.
- Knowledge of safeguarding practice and procedures.
- Knowledge and skills in people management including motivation and performance management skills.
- Commitment to rota‑based working, a commitment to working unsocial hours where required and willingness to work from any base in Sandwell and to move team/function when required.
