We are seeking a Head of Quality & Patient Experience to join the Chief Nursing & Midwifery Officer’s leadership team and help shape quality, safety and patient experience across our national service.

This senior leadership role provides strategic oversight of quality improvement, patient experience, professional standards and regulatory assurance across BPAS. Working closely with clinical, operational and corporate colleagues, you will help ensure our services remain safe, effective, sustainable and patient‑centred.

You will lead and develop the Quality Matrons and Patient Experience Manager, fostering high‑performing teams and a culture of continuous improvement, learning and accountability.

Using data, professional expertise and insight, you will provide assurance, identify opportunities for improvement and support organisational priorities.

You will also contribute to strategic decision‑making, service transformation, workforce development and quality improvement programmes that enhance patient care across BPAS.

This is a home‑based, permanent role with some travel to BPAS units and Head Office in Leamington Spa as required.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide strategic leadership for quality, patient experience and professional standards across BPAS
  • Lead & develop the Quality Matrons & Patient Experience Manager, promoting high performance and continuous improvement
  • Provide assurance on quality, patient experience, regulatory compliance and professional practice through effective use of data, insight and professional judgment
  • Lead quality improvement programmes, ensuring learning drives meaningful & sustainable improvements
  • Work with senior leaders across clinical, operational & corporate functions to support organisational priorities & objectives
  • Support workforce planning, professional development, succession planning & professional accountability across relevant clinical groups
  • Contribute to organisational transformation, service development & future models of care, ensuring quality & professional considerations inform decision‑making
  • Act as a visible professional leader & role model, championing BPAS values & high standards of clinical practice

About You

You will be a Registered Nurse, Midwife or Allied Health Professional with active registration and significant experience in a senior clinical leadership role within a regulated healthcare environment.

  • Experience leading quality improvement, change & transformation programmes
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, quality assurance & regulatory compliance
  • The ability to use data to identify risks and improvements
  • Experience leading & developing clinical teams & leaders

Job responsibilities

Location: Hybrid – Home working with occasional travel to Head Office and BPAS units when required.

Salary: £63,240 per annum

Hours: 36 hours per week | Monday to Thursday 09:00‑17:00 and Friday 09:00‑15:30

On call: All members of the Senior Operating Team will be required to participate in an on‑call rota. The On‑Call policy and procedure is being reviewed and revised, however it is envisaged that participation will involve being available to receive emergency / on‑call telephone calls up to 9pm Monday to Friday and on Saturdays and Sundays approximately 4 times per year.

Experience

  • Recent and relevant experience in a senior nursing, midwifery, AHP or equivalent clinical professional leadership role within a regulated healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading and developing clinical managers, professional leads or multidisciplinary clinical teams.
  • Experience of leading change management and improvement programmes including evaluation and assurance activities.
  • Experience of providing professional leadership across more than one site, service or team.
  • Experience of supporting workforce planning, staffing reviews, professional development, appraisal, supervision, revalidation or succession planning.
  • Experience of leading or supporting service improvement, quality improvement, transformation or change in a clinical environment.
  • Experience in abortion care, reproductive healthcare, women’s health, sexual health or a related specialist clinical area.
  • Experience of leading services through CQC inspection, regulatory review, quality improvement review or significant assurance process.
  • Experience of using equality impact assessment, health inequalities or patient inclusion tools to improve access, experience or outcomes.
  • Experience of digital change, clinical systems improvement or data‑led service transformation.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse, Midwife or AHP with active professional registration – please provide relevant PIN number
  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent professional experience in a relevant clinical, professional or healthcare leadership setting
  • Qualification or training in Senior Healthcare Leadership
  • PMA / PNA qualification or AHP equivalent.
  • Quality improvement, clinical governance, patient safety, safeguarding, coaching, programme or project management qualification.
