Are you a Psychology or Criminology graduate looking to gain meaningful experience before a career in educational psychology, clinical psychology, speech and language therapy, social work or teaching? Axcis Education is recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 5 to 16 with autism at a specialist school in Filton. Working Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm, you’ll help pupils build communication, independence, emotional regulation and confidence in a purpose‑built learning environment. Following a successful 16‑week settling‑in period, the role will become permanent. You’ll be joining a specialist school recognised by Ofsted for its ambitious curriculum, caring culture and dedicated staff. The school combines sensory‑friendly facilities with highly personalised learning, helping autistic pupils thrive academically, socially and emotionally while preparing them for adulthood.
Why Psychology and Criminology graduates? Your degree has already given you many of the skills needed to succeed as a Teaching Assistant. You’ll understand that behaviour is a form of communication, appreciate the importance of building positive relationships and be motivated to understand the reasons behind a young person’s actions. This role is ideal if you’re considering a future in educational psychology, clinical psychology, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, youth justice or social work. You’ll gain invaluable hands‑on experience supporting autistic children while developing skills in behaviour support, communication, emotional regulation and person‑centred practice. We’re looking for graduates who are patient, resilient, empathetic and eager to make a genuine difference. Previous school experience isn’t essential. Your attitude, compassion and willingness to learn matter far more.
