Alecto is a London-based legal-tech startup backed by Firstminute Capital, building the UK’s first AI-native law firm. Led by a founder who scaled Gen H to £1bn in annual lending, Alecto is disrupting the £4bn conveyancing market by replacing opaque, paper-heavy processes with advanced AI agents and regulated legal workflows.

As an early product engineer at Alecto, you will build the platform’s core architecture from the ground up. You’ll work directly with the founder and senior engineers to ship AI agents that automate complex legal tasks. This is a high-ownership role where you’ll shape product direction and deploy production-ready code within your first week.

What You Will Do

• Design and implement end-to-end features using a modern TypeScript monorepo, tRPC, and Inngest, ensuring high standards for reliability in a regulated environment.
• Develop and refine AI agents using LLMs and RAG techniques to automate the slow, paper-heavy workflows of traditional UK conveyancing.
• Engage directly with users to identify problems, form hypotheses, and iterate rapidly to define the product roadmap alongside the founding team.

The ideal candidate

• Demonstrates deep full-stack experience in TypeScript, React, and Node.js, with a track record of owning complex features from ideation to production at early-stage startups.
• Possesses “Startup DNA”—you are comfortable with ambiguity, move fast without sacrificing quality, and have a relentless drive for self-improvement and technical excellence.
• Shows proficiency in modern AI tooling and an interest in bridging the gap between machine learning research and building production-ready, agentic systems.
