This is a hands‑on practical role, carrying out a wide range of countryside management tasks such as dry stone walling, fencing, hedge‑laying, gate hanging and other estate maintenance work, helping to maintain and enhance the landscape.

Salary: £27,612 per annum

Contract Duration: Permanent

It also includes some of the Lake District’s most iconic fells and waters, such as Scafell, Great Gable, Catbells, Derwentwater, Buttermere and Wast Water.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be helping to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. You’ll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you’ll take the time to talk to them and answer their questions, rather than rushing away to the next task.

You’ll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard, as well as build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing.

Who we’re looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

• practical conservation skills, with experience of managing land, habitats and access, and working outdoors. You’ll be competent in using tools, machinery and equipment, with relevant certificates where required.
• the ability to carry out physical tasks that help protect and improve landscapes, habitats and visitor access, both now and for the future.
• a strong awareness of health and safety, with the ability to work safely, follow risk assessments and support others to do the same.
• confidence in engaging with visitors, explaining the work you’re doing and helping them understand and enjoy the place.
• strong teamwork skills, with experience of working effectively with colleagues and supporting volunteers, alongside a willingness to learn.
• good organisational skills, with the ability to plan work and manage your time effectively.
• a full UK driving licence.
