Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced a whole time Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist post with a specialist interest in Ocular Oncology to be employed by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post is primarily based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. This is a fixed term post for 12 months from the commencement date, with the potential to extend.

Main duties of the job
The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues, be responsible for delivering a comprehensive, effective and modern ophthalmology service with a substantial contribution to the Sheffield Ocular Oncology Service
- Assess and manage patients with suspected and confirmed ocular malignancy.
- Participate in referral screening and triage processes.
- Deliver independent new patient and follow‑up clinics.
- Participate in virtual clinics and remote monitoring pathways.
- Undertake ocular oncology procedures and treatments
- Contribute to reducing follow‑up backlogs and improving patient pathways
- Participate in the weekly Ocular Oncology MDT.
- Work closely with colleagues across Ophthalmology, Oncology, Pathology and Radiology.
- Participate in training, education and supervision of fellows and junior doctors.
- Contribute to research, audit, quality improvement and service innovation
Appointments are made to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the person appointed is required to be sufficiently flexible to undertake their main clinical duties at any of the sites within the Trust and/or to change their base hospital.
The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Essential: Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practice or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview.
- Essential: FRCOphth or equivalent international ophthalmology qualification
- Desirable: MD or PhD or equivalent
- Desirable: Further qualifications in research methods, teaching and/or management
- Desirable: Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
- Desirable: ARSAC licence holder (or willingness to obtain)
Clinical experience
- Essential: Evidence of appropriate clinical and surgical experience suitable for the post.
- Essential: Ability to work as an independent practitioner.
- Essential: Ocular Oncology fellowship‑level experience in a recognised centre.
- Desirable: Consultant experience in Ocular Oncology
Research
- Essential: Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
