Job Overview
The purpose of the post is to strategically lead the promotion of breastfeeding initiation and continuation in Hillingdon, to improve health outcomes for mothers and babies and to contribute in reducing health inequalities and childhood obesity. The post will take the lead in developing and implementing plans that will enable Hillingdon Community Health achieve national, regional and local breastfeeding targets for its population.
The post holder will also lead and coordinate public health projects to improve health outcomes for children and families.
Main duties of the job
As the Infant Feeding Coordinator, you will support families during the crucial early days, weeks, and months of a baby’s life. The support you provide can have a lasting impact on the health and wellbeing of babies and their families.
You will work across the Hillingdon borough to deliver an infant feeding service in collaboration with the Health Visiting teams, maternity services, GPs, children’s centres, and other local partners, you will provide high-quality, evidence-based infant feeding support tailored to the needs of local families.
The successful applicant will support the ongoing implementation, embedding and evaluation of UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Level 3 standards across the Health Visiting Service, contributing to service quality, clinical governance and continuous quality improvement to enhance health outcomes for babies, children and families.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- To develop and implement key aspects of the action plan attached to the ‘Hillingdon Infant Feeding Strategy’.
- To coordinate the implementation of Baby Friendly Initiative Standards (BFI) across the Borough ensuring support and advice are targeted and that best practice and training opportunities are shared across agencies.
- To lead the process of embedding breast feeding within Hillingdon Community health and across Primary Care and Children’s Centres/Family Hubs.
- The post holder will act as a champion to develop the skills of the workforce through positive leadership on breast feeding and other Public Health initiatives.
- To work with health practitioners to promote best practice in breastfeeding across Hillingdon and ensure that appropriate support mechanisms are in place for relevant staff groups to enable this to move forward.
- To deliver specialised BFI training to health staff, carers etc to enable them to deliver specific areas of care.
- To support the peer support programme in Children’s Centres/Family Hubs providing training where required.
- To attend all appropriate meetings and be a full and active member relevant to Breastfeeding Services in Hillingdon.

Education, Qualifications And Training
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse/Midwife with current NMC registration
- SCPHN qualification
- BFI Breastfeeding and Relationship Building (BRB) Course
- BFI Train the Trainer – or prepared to undertake training as soon as in post
Desirable criteria
- UNICEF Achieving Sustainability Course
- Project management qualification
- Qualification in teaching/assessing clinical practice
- IBCLC (International Board certified Lactation Consultant)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate experience in developing and implementing new initiatives or projects and managing change
- Demonstrate evidence of professional development to actively promote and improve infant feeding and breast/chestfeeding service delivery
Knowledge and Skills
