Specialist Occupational Therapist – Neuro & Stroke Rehabilitation

An exciting opportunity has arisen for aforward thinking, enthusiastic, and motivated Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the Neurorehab and Stroke Therapy Teams at Bolton.
There are two posts currently within the service, one within the Neurorehab team and one on the inpatient stroke unit. There will be the opportunity to rotate through these services as well as the community stroke team in the future.
The Stroke Therapy service is based at the Royal Bolton Hospital and may support the wider Stroke Therapy and Community Stroke team based at Breightmet Health Centre.
The post holder will be part of a friendly and dynamic team working closely to provide collaborative care and specialist Occupational Therapy treatment, intervention and advice.
The successful applicant will work as part of a well established and highly skilled Stroke Therapy multidisciplinary team, alongside physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, therapy assistants and nurses.
The service actively encourages training and staff development supported by experienced senior staff. The post holder will benefit from working within a supportive team, with a robust supervision and appraisal programme, excellent in-house training and CPD. Supervision and support will be provided by Band 7 Occupational Therapists.
Main duties of the job
- To work as an autonomous practitioner within the neurorehab and stroke therapy services supported by highly specialist therapists.
- To perform therapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes.
- To manage a defined caseload, using evidence based, client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
- To provide clinical education, advice and support for junior therapy staff and support staff.
- To provide highly specialist knowledge, skills and advice to clients, and be a source of expertise for therapy staff, other members of the MDT and other agencies.
- To supervise, educate and assess the performance of therapy students.
- To contribute to service research and audit activities.
- To propose any service changes within own professional speciality area.

Qualifications
- Registered with HCPC
- Evidence CPD / post grad training in specialist area
- Membership of appropriate professional body
- Membership of professional special interest group
- Clinical educators course / supervise students
Experience
- Broad range of clinical experience prior to specialising.
- Experience of working in the field of Stroke and/or Neurorehab
- Experience of a variety of assessment and treatment approaches/models used within the treatment of Stroke and/or Neurorehab
- Supervision of support staff and students.
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
- Delivering Fatigue Management Programme
- Experience of student education within the workplace up to graduate level
Skills
- Ability to use and apply Assessment and treatment with patients with neurological impairment
- Ability to pass knowledge and skills onto others
- Work with data protection and trust policies

Knowledge
