TheDepartment of History at Brandeis Universityinvites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in American Jewish History at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in academic year 2027-2028.
Brandeis has a long tradition of scholarly and pedagogical excellence in American Jewish History.Active university research and study institutes and centers contribute to a lively intellectual community and an ongoing array of events and collaborations, as well as significant funding opportunities from within campus resources. We seek to appoint a scholar whose interests reflect the current dynamism animating American Jewish History.
The successful candidate will hold theJoseph H. and Belle R. Braun Chair in American Jewish History.This position is subject to budget approval.
Qualifications.
The Dept. of History is especially interested in historians who would extend the methodological and thematic range of the department’s current faculty and contribute to graduate and undergraduate advising and teaching in History. They must have a PhD in History or a closely related field by August 15, 2027, as well as an active research agenda and evidence of excellence in teaching. Research may focus on any period after 1650. Candidates should be prepared to offer introductory undergraduate courses in American Jewish History, as well as thematic undergraduate courses, upper-level undergraduate seminars, and graduate seminars, and to supervise undergraduate theses as well as MA theses and PhD dissertations. The standard teaching load is two courses per semester, taught on campus.
