The Role: CG Lead
As a CG Lead Artist at Black Kite Studios, you are the technical and creative bridge between the VFX Supervisor and the artist floor. You are responsible for the “how” and the “wow”—ensuring that our technical solutions are as robust as our creative output is stunning.
1. Technical & Creative Leadership
Solution Architecture: You will collaborate with VFX Supervisors to develop and implement technical workflows for complex CG requirements across a range of projects, from high-octane commercials to atmospheric film work.
Pipeline Innovation: You will contribute to high-level discussions regarding the evolution of our CG pipeline. Whether it’s streamlining Houdini-to-Nuke workflows or optimizing Arnold renders, your input drives our efficiency.
Quality Control: You are the final gatekeeper for the CG department’s output. You ensure every asset, light rig, and simulation meets the “Black Kite” standard of excellence before it hits the comp.
2. Team Management & Mentorship
Directing Talent: You will lead and inspire teams of CG artists, providing the mentorship and support needed for them to reach their full potential.
Feedback Delivery: You will translate client and director feedback into clear, constructive, and actionable notes for your team. You manage the delicate balance between creative vision and production deadlines.
Culture Influencer: As a Lead, you are a primary driver of our studio culture. You encourage a positive, “can-do” environment where artists feel safe to experiment and fail fast.
3. Production & Brand Ambassadorship
Bidding & Winning: You will work closely with the Production team and EPs to pitch for new work. Your technical expertise helps us provide accurate bids and win high-end creative treatments.
Client Relationships: You will seek opportunities to develop long-term relationships with clients, helping them see the technical possibilities of their creative ideas.
Industry Presence: You are a brand ambassador for Black Kite. Whether at industry events or award shows, you represent the studio’s talent and values to the wider world.

Industry Experience: You have a proven history of delivering outstanding VFX work across Commercials, TV, and/or Film. You know the pace of the London market and what it takes to succeed.
Supervisory Track Record: You have experience leading or supervising teams. You know how to manage different personalities and skill levels to achieve a unified creative goal.
Software Mastery: Expert-level production experience with Houdini and/or Maya.
Mastery of Arnold or other industry-standard path-tracing renderers.
A solid understanding of 2D workflows and a working knowledge of Nuke to ensure seamless hand-offs.
Problem-Solving Prowess: You enjoy the “puzzle” of VFX. You are a natural troubleshooter who can stay calm under pressure and find the most efficient path to a beautiful result.
Technical Plus: Scripting or programming knowledge (Python/Vex) is highly desirable and will help you excel in our technology-inspired environment.
