We’re looking for a Night Shift Engineering Team Leader to join our engineering function and play a key role in maintaining the performance, reliability and safety of our operations. The Role
As Night Shift Engineering Team Leader, you will lead and support a team of engineers throughout the night shift, ensuring maintenance activities and breakdown responses are delivered effectively and efficiently. You’ll act as the senior engineering presence on shift, driving equipment reliability, minimising downtime and promoting a culture of continuous improvement. In the absence of the Engineering Shift Manager, you’ll take full responsibility for the engineering team’s performance on shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate and develop the engineering team during night shifts.
- Provide hands‑on support, working alongside engineers to maintain and repair production equipment.
- Coordinate and prioritise maintenance activities and breakdown responses.
- Carry out fault‑finding, diagnostics and root cause analysis to prevent recurring issues.
- Drive planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities to maximise equipment uptime.
- Support continuous improvement projects that enhance efficiency, reliability and sustainability.
- Ensure accurate maintenance records are maintained within the CMMS system.
- Promote and maintain the highest standards of health, safety and compliance.
- Act as the key engineering contact for production and factory management during night operations.
- Support the introduction of new equipment and engineering improvements across the site.
- Shift pattern, 4 on 4 off, 6pm to 6am
What We’re Looking For
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience in a Supervisory, Team Leader or Engineering Leadership role.
- A time-served apprenticeship or engineering qualification such as NVQ Level 3, HNC or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical or Multi‑Skilled Engineering.
- Experience within a manufacturing, FMCG or food production environment.
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault‑finding skills.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance, reliability‑centred maintenance and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience working with CMMS systems and engineering record management.
- Knowledge of engineering compliance requirements, including health and safety regulations.
- Excellent communication, organisation and problem‑solving skills.
- The ability to make sound decisions under pressure and lead by example.
