Field Service Technician – Home based, covering London airports predominantly
Permanent role ideal for candidates based near London (Berkshire, Hertfordshire, Beds/Bucks or nearby) within 2‑3 hours of Stansted, Luton or City. Works largely independently or with site‑based teams, providing technical support, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and servicing of x‑ray and CT‑based security systems at customer sites. Handles complex products and problems, offers guidance to junior technicians, and maintains positive relationships with regional airports to ensure outstanding customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Technical
- Install, calibrate, maintain, test, troubleshoot and repair x‑ray and CT security systems of a highly complex nature.
Time Management
- Coordinate planning and delivery of preventative maintenance services on various security search equipment.
- Achieve response times and resolution targets for corrective maintenance within KPIs and customer SLAs.
Data and Reporting
- Create, process and complete work orders accurately with correct timestamps in Salesforce Lightning.
- Record clear, concise information for business intelligence, contractual performance and compliance reporting.
- Submit maintenance reports and relay information to customers in a professional, commercially sensitive manner.
Communication
- Exhibit excellent customer interface, presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written.

- Demonstrate a desire to produce high‑standard work and collaborate effectively within a small, successful team.
Cross‑Functional Working
- Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure project completion.

- Follow and promote company safety policies and procedures.
- Use personal protective equipment and handle tools, test equipment and spare parts safely.
- Lift, manoeuvre or position items up to 16Â kg unaided, with occasional heavier items using approved aids.
- Maintain personal responsibility, situational awareness and adherence to safety protocols when lone working.

Requirements
- Excellent customer interface, presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Knowledge of complex digital and analog circuitry; Linux experience a plus.
- Knowledge of complex mechanical systems, familiarity with test equipment (DVM, oscilloscope) and experience with high‑voltage and x‑ray producing equipment.
- Team player able to prioritise, work under pressure, and perform multiple activities simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and IT systems, network & PLC diagnostics, specialised aviation security software platforms.
- Hands‑on experience with software maintenance, diagnostics and secure in‑field software upgrades.
Experience
- Experience in security and detection systems, aviation, and operating in a global environment.
- Experience within a field service environment in a directly applicable industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of x‑ray, CT technologies and company products.
- Exposure to automation, automotive manufacturing, aerospace manufacturing, mechanical/material handling, conveyor systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, robotics, control systems, electrical power systems.
Technical Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3, HNC, HND in Electronics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (highly desirable).
- Engineering graduate or military training in electronics engineering technology (highly desirable).
Other
- Available to travel throughout the UK on short notice, work non‑standard hours, weekends, public holidays and overnight stays.
- UK driving licence required.
- 5‑year checkable UK work history required for airside passes.
- Work in challenging operational environments, including airports and secure facilities.
- Capability to lift and manually handle tools, test equipment, spare parts and system components up to 16Â kg unaided.
- Frequent requirement to travel significant distances on foot between terminals, equipment locations and secure zones.
- Potential to work alone on customer sites, in restricted areas, or during out‑of‑hours maintenance windows.
- Access confined spaces, raised platforms, service pits or equipment rooms; maintain physical agility and comfort with varying environments.
- Prolonged kneeling, standing, bending, reaching and fine‑motor technical adjustments may be required.
Pay Range
£34,800.00 – £43,500.00 (general guideline only; does not guarantee compensation).
