Job overview

As Velindre Cancer Centre prepares to move into its new state-of-the-art Cancer Centre, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Radiology Quality and Safety Manager to lead and develop quality governance, patient safety, regulatory compliance, accreditation and continuous improvement initiatives across the Radiology Service.

This pivotal leadership role will work closely with Radiologists, Radiographers, Medical Physics, Nursing, operational teams and wider multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, patient-centred and high-quality diagnostic imaging services for cancer patients across Velindre Cancer Centre.

A key focus of the role will be to support and coordinate the Radiology Service’s journey towards achieving Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI) Accreditation. As Velindre embarks on this accreditation programme, the post holder will play a central role in embedding QSI standards throughout the service, driving quality improvement initiatives, strengthening governance processes, evidencing compliance and fostering a culture of excellence, learning and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will provide visible leadership in quality and safety, ensuring radiology services meet QSI standards, legislative and regulatory requirements, professional guidance and organisational objectives, while supporting the development of a high-performing and continuously improving service.

Main duties of the job

The Quality and Safety Manager will be responsible for leading and overseeing the Radiology Quality Management System, ensuring robust governance arrangements are in place to support safe, effective and high-quality service delivery.

A principal responsibility of the role will be to coordinate and support the service’s Working Towards QSI Accreditation programme. The post holder will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to undertake gap analyses, develop and implement action plans, coordinate evidence collection, monitor progress against QSI standards and embed sustainable quality improvements that support accreditation and long‑term service excellence.

The role will also lead on clinical audit programmes, quality assurance initiatives, incident reporting and investigations, risk management processes, patient feedback programmes and service improvement activities. The post holder will provide expert advice and guidance on governance, quality, accreditation, and patient safety matters, ensuring a proactive approach to continuous improvement and organisational learning.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience in healthcare quality, governance, patient safety, accreditation, or radiology management, alongside excellent leadership, analytical, project management and stakeholder engagement skills. A strong understanding of NHS quality frameworks, quality improvement methodologies, risk management principles and regulatory compliance is essential.
