Job Description:

Westbury Group Practice are looking for an experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly and professional team. Working under the supervision of registered nurses and our Clinical Lead Nurse, this role will involve a variety of work including, phlebotomy, BP’s, health checks, dressings, vaccinations and other healthcare work.

Applicants should hold the Care Certificate and ideally NVQ ll in Health and Social Care.

Main duties of the job

To assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education, strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols.

Processing samples for the lab

Chaperoning

Assisting with Pre & post GP appointment tasks, including some administration

Job responsibilities

Main Duties and JobResponsibilities:

Confirming the identity of patients beforecarrying out any procedures

Responsiblefor identifying and acting on safeguarding concerns

Accuratelymeasure weight and height, calculate BMI and recognise healthy ranges andclinically significant low/high readings

Usemanual techniques and devices to record and interpret vital signs

Undertakevenepuncture and routine ECG monitoring

Managesputum, urine, stool and vomit samples, collecting, interpreting and reportingas appropriate

INR monitoring

Monitorwounds and undertake wound care using appropriate evidence based techniques,including leg ulceration, under supervision of a registered nurse

Undertaking clinical activities for namedpatients that have been identified by patient specific direction, includinginfluenza vaccine, pneumonia vaccine, B12 and prostap injections.

Screening of patients for NHSHealth Checks, mental health reviews and memory assessments.

Processing and management of laboratory samples

Stock control and ordering of clinical itemsand immunisations.

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring andrecording

Preparing and maintaining environments andequipment before, during and after patient care interventions.

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance ofpatients health and well-being

Helping to raise awareness of health andwell-being and how it can be promoted

Infectioncontrol use standard precautions, effective hand hygiene techniques,effective decontamination of equipment and the environment techniques andsafely handle and dispose of waste

Complete tasks on behalf of the GP pre or post appointment

Person Specification

Experience

  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting
  • -Be able to work as a member of a team
  • -Perform phlebotomy, ECG’s, urinalysis, NHS Health Checks, INR checks
  • -Experience of time management skills and prioritising work
  • -Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate
  • -Experience of receiving complex, and sensitive information
  • Experience of working in primary care

Qualifications

  • GCSE Grade A-C in Maths & English or equivalent
  • Level 2 or 3 QCF / NVQ in Health and social care/ Healthcare
  • Care Certificate

Knowledge and Skills

  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
  • -Able to complete appropriate documentation accurately
  • -Demonstrate an awareness of healthcare work and policies and procedures
  • -Committed to providing high quality patient care
  • -IT skills, basic word, email, keyboard skills
