Senior Disputes Lawyer – In-house

We are working with a leading global professional services firm on a senior In-House Disputes Lawyer role within its internal practice protection team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced disputes lawyer looking to move into a strategic, contentious risk role within an international legal and professional services environment. Sitting within the firm’s internal legal function, you will advise on complex contentious matters, legal risk, professional responsibility, governance and emerging legal issues, supporting partners and fee earners across a global platform.

The team is looking for someone with a strong litigation and regulatory mindset who enjoys thinking beyond individual matters to the big picture.

Someone who is proactive in approach and can identify emerging risks, influence senior stakeholders and help shape the firm’s approach to legal risk, innovation and the responsible adoption of new technologies.

The role

  • Lead complex non-regulatory disputes, commercial contentious matters and internal legal issues.
  • Advise on legal risk, professional responsibility, governance and firm-wide risk management.
  • Manage professional indemnity (PI) claims, complaints and contentious matters.
  • Act as a trusted adviser to partners and fee earners on sensitive legal, ethical and commercial issues.
  • Conduct internal investigations and support complex risk escalations and dispute resolution.
  • Advise on matters involving the regulatory context, engaging with regulators including the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) where appropriate.
  • Take a proactive approach to identifying, assessing and resolving legal and commercial risks before they escalate.
  • Manage difficult stakeholders and provide pragmatic, commercially focused advice within a complex organisational environment.
  • Build strong relationships with partners and senior stakeholders, demonstrating excellent senior-level stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Work closely with colleagues across multiple jurisdictions on cross-border matters.
  • Play a key role in shaping the firm’s approach to Generative AI, advising on the legal, ethical and regulatory risks associated with AI adoption while helping develop robust governance frameworks, policies and controls.
  • Partner with Legal, Risk, Compliance and Technology teams to support the responsible implementation of AI, balancing innovation with effective risk management.
  • Monitor developments in AI regulation and emerging technologies, providing strategic input into firm-wide governance, legal risk frameworks and best practice.

The background they’re looking for

  • 12+ years’ PQE.
  • Trained and qualified within a leading law firm.
  • Strong background in commercial litigation, commercial disputes, regulatory investigations, professional indemnity, professional negligence, compliance or contentious regulatory work.
  • A litigation and regulatory mindset, with the ability to think strategically, see the big picture and provide practical, commercially focused solutions.
  • Experience advising on legal risk, governance, compliance or professional responsibility matters.
  • Demonstrable ability to engage, influence and challenge senior stakeholders in a complex, fast-paced organisation.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience in Generative AI, legal technology and innovation, with an appreciation of the legal, ethical and governance challenges associated with emerging technologies.
  • International or cross-border experience gained within a law firm or professional services environment.

Candidates currently working in private practice, the Office of the General Counsel (OGC), General Counsel & Risk, Risk Counsel, Professional Responsibility, Legal Risk, Internal Legal, or other in-house legal functions are encouraged to apply.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a disputes lawyer seeking a private practice-adjacent career within one of the market’s leading international legal risk teams. You’ll advise on high-profile, strategically important matters while helping shape the firm’s approach to contentious risk, governance and the responsible use of Generative AI in an evolving legal landscape.
