Overview
The Care Services Director provides strategic leadership for all care services across St Michaels, leading the development and delivery of the Care Strategy and ensuring the organisation responds effectively to the evolving health and care landscape. The post holder leads system integration, service transformation, quality and patient safety, workforce planning, commissioning relationships and organisational performance, while acting as the Care Quality Commission (CQC) Nominated Individual. The role includes providing leadership to Palliative and End of Life Care services delivered collaboratively at Place and representing St Michaels at senior levels across One Herefordshire and with wider system partners.
Responsibilities
- Care Services Leadership: provide visible, inspirational, values-led leadership across all care services, including those delivered in partnership or collaboration.
- Strategy, Transformation and Service Development: lead the development and implementation of the St Michaels Care Strategy and oversee service redesign and transformation programmes.
- System Integration and External Influence: lead involvement in One Herefordshire and wider Integrated Care System initiatives, develop partnerships with commissioners, providers, primary care, local authorities and voluntary sector organisations, and promote St Michaels as a trusted system partner.
- Quality, Safety and Governance: provide executive leadership for patient safety, clinical quality, governance and risk management; ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
- Workforce, Education and Organisational Development: develop workforce strategies, future workforce plans, and education and professional development programmes in collaboration with the People Director and Lead Teacher Practitioner.
- Financial Management and Performance: oversee budgets and financial performance; monitor service plans, contracts, KPIs and value delivery.
- Leadership and Culture: champion organisational values, foster collaboration across departments and act as professional lead for nursing with governance and regulatory standards in mind.
- Communication: provide high-quality reports and updates to the Board and external stakeholders; ensure clear communication of care strategy and system integration activities.
- Care Quality Commission Nominated Individual: act as the CQC Nominated Individual, ensuring compliance and leading preparations for inspections.
Experience and Qualifications
- Essential: Registered healthcare professional; Master’s level education; significant senior leadership experience in healthcare, hospice, community or integrated care; experience of strategic development and organisational transformation; senior-level partnership and system leadership experience; governance, quality, patient safety and risk management; strong stakeholder influence; budgeting, business planning and performance reporting; excellent communication and IT/digital literacy.
- Desirable: experience within an Integrated Care System; experience in regulated health or social care services; qualification in leadership, management or organisational development.
